RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team completed the 2020-21 men's basketball season with a 10-2 record after defeating Earlham College 74-56 to retain the John Mutchner Cup on Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, Rose-Hulman secured the highest winning percentage among HCAC teams during the 2020-21 men's basketball season.
The score was tied 26-26 with 5:19 left in the first half, before the Fightin' Engineers closed the opening 20 minutes on a 15-0 run to take a 41-26 halftime lead.Â
Dillon Duff opened the run with five straight points,
Craig McGee scored seven of the next 10 points, and
Samvit Ram buried a three-pointer to give Rose-Hulman a double-figure lead at the half.
Earlham closed to within 12 points at 44-32 with 17:26 left, but an 11-1 run by Rose-Hulman pushed the lead to 55-33 and put the game away. Back-to-back three-pointers from
Max Chaplin capped the Fightin' Engineer run.
Duff paced the Rose-Hulman offense with 15 points and eight rebounds. McGee also reached double figures with 11 points and added a game-high six assists. Ram and
Terry Hicks contributed nine points each, and Chaplin scored six points.Â
Rose-Hulman had 13 different players dent the scoring column in the win. Jamel Barnes led Earlham with 27 of the team's 56 points.
Earlham dropped to 1-7, while Rose-Hulman finishes the 2020-21 campaign with a 10-2 record. The .833 winning percentage ranks third in Rose-Hulman single-season history, behind the 1977 and 2013 teams that were 24-4.
