CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored four first-half goals and relied on solid defense to defeat Mount St. Joseph 5-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer opener on Tuesday night.
AJ Yilmaz and
Takezo Kelly led the Fightin' Engineer offense with two goals each. Yilmaz scored in the 9th and 16th minutes, while Kelly scored in the 14th and 42nd minutes to give Rose-Hulman a 4-0 lead at the break.
Sam Alvares added the final goal of the night in the 55th minute as the Fightin' Engineers picked up the 5-0 victory.
Rose-Hulman outshot Mount St. Joseph 17-1 in the match and had a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. Kelly led the offense with four shots.
Assists on the evening were recorded by Kelly,
Caleb Urban and
Julius Salinas. Â
Rose-Hulman improved to 1-0 on the season, while Mount St. Joseph stands 0-1. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at Bluffton University on Saturday at 3:30 pm.
