TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team puts its 1-0 record on the line at Bluffton University on Saturday at 3:30 pm. Visiting fans are not permitted to attend this game.
ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman defeated Mount St. Joseph 5-0 in the season opener on Tuesday, outshooting the Lions 17-1.
Takezo Kelly and
AJ Yilmaz each scored two goals to lead the offense.
*Â Rose-Hulman has been picked to finish 1st in the HCAC this season, in the preseason coaches poll released last week.
*Â Rose-Hulman finished 16-3-1 overall and 8-1 in HCAC play last season. The Fightin' Engineers closed the regular season with five straight wins and defeated Transylvania 2-1 in the HCAC semifinals. Hanover defeated Rose-Hulman in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in the 2019 HCAC Tournament Final.
* The Fightin' Engineers combine excellence on the field AND in the classroom.Â
Eric Kirby was named a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2019 and was joined by
Ryan Tarr as a third-team United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American last season.
* When Rose-Hulman opens its home schedule on March 13, the Fightin' Engineers will do so on the program's new synthetic turf field installed this summer. Â The Rose-Hulman soccer programs send an enthusiastic thank you to the anonymous donors who contributed toward this tremendous project.
BLUFFTON GAME NOTES:
*Â Bluffton stands 0-1 after a 1-0 overtime loss to Defiance in its season opener on Tuesday.
* First-year head coach Robert Richardson comes to Bluffton after spending the last season seasons as head coach at Emory & Henry College in Virginia.
