NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 4-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis action with a 7-2 victory over Transyvlania University on Saturday at Top Seed Tennis Club.
The win marked Rose-Hulman's 51st consecutive victory against HCAC competition dating back to May 2014.
Rose-Hulman swept the three doubles matches to jump out to an early lead, then won four singles matches to complete the victory.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Joseph Conrad and
Hart Howard won 8-5; the No. 2 squad of
Joshua Giambattista and
Rhian Seneviratne won 8-7 (7-5); and the No. 3 team of
Grant Stamper and
Mark Slaninka won 8-3 to lead the performance.
In singles play, winners included Stamper at No. 2 by a margin of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3; Howard at No. 4 by 6-2, 6-0; Seneviratne by a 6-1, 6-3 count at No. 5; and Slaninka by a score of 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
Rose-Hulman improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in HCAC play with the victory, while Transylvania is 2-4 and 1-1 in league play. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Hanover for one HCAC match and one non-conference match on Sunday.
