TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team picked up two wins at home on Friday night, sweeping Bluffton 11-1 in seven innings in game one and 9-4 in game two. Rose-Hulman improved to 14-10 on the season while Bluffton fell to 12-18.
GAME ONE
The offense was on full display in game one as Rose-Hulman plated seven runs and 11 hits through the first three innings of the game. The three-run second inning was highlighted by a
Shane Garner solo home run to right-center field. In the third, a two-out double by
Josh Mesenbrink set up a two-RBI single by
Shaine Mitchell.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Garner blasted his second home run of the game, moving the junior's home run season total to four. The game ended when a
Logan Cody ground ball resulted in a throwing error by Bluffton, allowing Mitchell and
Harris Camp to score.
Luke Kluemper finished a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate, scoring three runs. Garner, Mitchell, and Camp finished with identical stat lines: two hits, two RBI's, and two runs scored a piece.
Ben Yoss went the distance on the hill with a complete game, seven-inning effort. Yoss struck out five to earn the win, now holding at 5-1 on the season after recording two wins in his first three seasons as an Engineer.
GAME TWO
Game two saw a more balanced offensive attack on both sides of the plate, with the hits column ending in Rose-Hulman's favor 13-11.
Andy Krajecki saw his first long-ball of his career, sending a two-run home run over the fence in the second inning.
Rose-Hulman broke the 4-4 tie by scoring five runs in their half of the seventh. A leadoff double by
Brett Tuttle set up an RBI-single by Mitchell. A single by Camp scored Mitchell, followed by Camp working around the bases to be scored on a pinch-hit, RBI single to right-center field by
AJ Ernst. The final scores came from a two-RBI double by Krajecki scored Mesenbrink and Ernst.
Tuttle spearheaded the offense in game two by finishing a perfect 4-for-4. Krajecki drove in four runs on two hits. Mesenbrink added two hits and scored three times, while Camp tallied two hits.
Schuyler Wilcox earned his first career pitching victory with three scoreless innings of relief work.
The Fightin' Engineers return to action this Sunday, April 25 at Earlham College for another HCAC doubleheader. First pitches from Richmond is scheduled for 1pm and 4pm.
