SATURDAY RECAP:
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball traveled to Cincinnati to battle Mount St. Joseph, falling in doubleheader action 7-5 and 12-7. Rose-Hulman fell to 8-7, while MSJ improved to 6-8.
Rose-Hulman took the lead early in game one, leading 3-0 by the end of the third inning.
Adam Taylor tripled, scoring
Luke Calabrese and
AJ Ernst in the first inning. Taylor drove in another run with an RBI single in the third inning, again scoring Calabrese. MSJ recorded all eight of their hits in the last half of the game to earn and hold the lead.
Luke Calabrese led Rose-Hulman in hits, finishing 3-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Taylor trailed closely, finishing 2-5 and recording three RBI's.
Harris Camp tacked on the fifth RBI for Rose-Hulman.
Matthew Rouse tossed 5.0 innings, striking out six.
Game two remained a close battle until the fourth inning when Tyrell Anderson of MSJ hit a grand slam, increasing their lead to four. The Fightin' Engineers created a small comeback in the eighth inning when
Shane Garner blasted a two-run home run, cutting the deficit to three runs at 9-6. In MSJ's half of that inning, they tacked on three runs of their own to secure the win.
Rose-Hulman's offense in game two was led by
Brett Tuttle and
Manuel Lopez. Tuttle finished 4-5 with a pair of runs scored, while Lopez finished 3-5 with one RBI and a pair of runs scored of his own.
The Fightin' Engineers turn around quickly to battle the Transylvania Pioneers who sit atop of the HCAC with an 11-3 record. The doubleheader's first pitch for tomorrow, April 3 is scheduled for 2pm.
