TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology brought home its 8th Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer championship with a 3-0 victory over Transylvania University on Friday night at the Engineer Soccer Field.

Rose-Hulman completed the first unbeaten season in program history with a 9-0-1 record with the win.  The Fightin' Engineers also won their first HCAC Tournament Championship since 2015 with the result.

Ryan Tarr was named the 2020-21 HCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after playing a huge role in his first game after missing a month due to injury.  Tarr scored the second goal of the evening and anchored a defensive effort that held to Transylvania to just six shots and four shots on goal in the victory.

Takezo Kelly was the offensive hero for the Engineers, scoring two goals including one on a penalty kick.  Evan Hofer led the defense with four saves, including a key diving save in the game's opening minutes that kept the match scoreless.

Rose-Hulman outshot Transylvania 20-6 in the match, including 12-3 in the opening 45 minutes.  The Fightin' Engineers controlled play for much of the night, with 12 corner kicks to just one for the Pioneers.

The Engineers broke into the scoring column in the 41st minute.  Kelly converted on a penalty kick for his team leading 9th goal of the season to give Rose-Hulman a 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Rose-Hulman scored 12 minutes in to take a 2-0 advantage.  Tarr scored on a header in front of the net, courtesy of a crossing pass from Caleb Urban in the 57th minute.

The final goal came 13 minutes later, after Babacar Diatta broke down the Transylvania defense and served a pass to Kelly his 10th goal of the season on the finishing shot.

Rose-Hulman finished the historic season by outscoring its opponents 35-5 over 10 games.
