TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team fell at home on Senior Day to Defiance College in Sunday's doubleheader, 10-3 and 8-0. Rose-Hulman fell to 9-24 on the season while Defiance improved to 16-21-1.
All three runs for Rose-Hulman in game one came off RBI singles.
Gabrielle Davidson singled in the second inning plating
Emily Struble and
Kennedy Michnewicz, and
Jessica Thuer singled in the third scoring
Reagan Knabe.
Thuer finished 2-for-4 in game one, while Michnewicz, Struble, Davidson,
Alexis Fortuna, and
Alyssa Pinkston all recorded one hit each.
In game two, Fortuna, Struble, and
Angela Boulboulle tallied hits for the Fightin' Engineers.Â
Rose-Hulman honored its two softball seniors,
Emily Struble and
Jessica Thuer. Struble (Carrollton, Ill.) is a three-year member of the squad, and Thuer (Cicero, Ind.) is a four-year team member.
With three games remaining in the season, Struble is a career .252 hitter with a .346 slugging percentage in 59 games. With 40 career hits, she has totaled 16 RBI's, 12 doubles, and one home run. The senior also performs in the circle, totaling 187 innings in 40 appearances. In Struble's 40 games, she has thrown 21 complete games with 117 total strikeouts.
Thuer currently has a .271 career batting average in 99 total games played. This season she has posted career-highs in hits in a season (25), doubles (7), triples (1), and RBI's (12). Overall, Thuer has tallied 62 hits, 17 doubles, two home runs, 31 RBI's, and a .380 slugging percentage.
The Fightin' Engineer softball team gears up for the final three games of the season this upcoming week. Wednesday, May 5 is a single home game versus #5 DePauw University at 7pm, and will wrap up the season on the road against Transylvania University on Saturday, May 8.
