BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology battled to its third 5-set win of the young 2021 season, picking up a dramatic victory over Benedictine University on Friday night at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.
Rose-Hulman won each odd numbered set in the 26-24, 18-25, 25-21, 20-25, 19-17 victory that took four extra points in the final set for the Fightin' Engineers to win.
Kate Wood led the Rose-Hulman offense with 16 kills at a .324 hitting percnetage.Â
Sophia Koop was also in double figures with 13 kills.Â
Jillian Gregg and
Elizabeth Canon added nine kills each.
Gregg recorded a match-high 27 assists, and
Sophia Harrison contributed 20 assists and a team-high three service aces to the victory.Â
Allie Fults led the defensive front row effort with three total blocks.
Kylie Rathbun had a team-high 24 digs to lead three players in double figures. Koop added 17 digs, and Harrison had 11 for the Fightin' Engineers.
Rose-Hulman won its third 5-set this match this season after defeating Illinois College and Knox last weekend. The Fightin' Engineers stand 3-2 on the season and return to action with two more matches on Saturday, against No. 11 ranked Ohio Northern and host Illinois Wesleyan.
