TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology picked up a 4-set win over Concordia Chicago and lost in a tight 3-set match to No. 23 ranked Washington University (Mo.) on the opening night of the Rose-Hulman Volleyball Invitational.

In the opening match, Rose-Hulman earned a 25-20, 25-27, 25-12, 27-25 victory over the Cougars from Concordia Chicago.

Sophia Koop led the Rose-Hulman offense with 19 kills at a .300 hitting percentage.  Elizabeth Canon added 12 kills, and Allie Fults added 11 kills with a .500 hitting percentage.

Jillian Gregg recorded a team-high 28 assists, and Sophia Harrison added 20 assists.  Harrison also had a team-high five service aces, Koop had three and Fults contributed two.

Fults recorded one solo block and for block assists to lead the front row defense.  Kylie Rathbun had 21 digs, Koop recorded 13, and Claudia Rowan contributed 11 digs.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman gave No. 23 ranked Washington University a tight battle for two sets in a 25-27, 25-22, 25-15 loss.

Koop had a team-high 13 kills with Canon contributing nine.  Gregg led the team with 16 assists, and Harrison contributed 11.

Rathbun tallied 16 digs and Gregg pitched in with 15 in match two.

Rose-Hulman stands 7-7 on the season and will face Blackburn (11 am) and Illinois Tech (1:30 pm).
