TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology football team travels to Defiance College to open the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference football season on Saturday at 1:30 pm.

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman stands 1-2 on the season with losses to a pair of 2019 NCAA Division III Playoff teams in Wabash (33-20) and Hope (27-20).
* Andrew Dion ranks No. 2 in career passing yards (7586), No. 2 in career touchdown passes (69), and No. 3 in pass completions (568). Dion needs 708 passing yards and 12 touchdown passes to become the career leader at Rose-Hulman in both categories.
* Noah Thomas holds the Rose-Hulman career school record for pass reception yards (2942). He ranks No. 2 all-time in pass receptions (212 - 7 shy of school record) and receiving touchdowns (28 - 8 shy of school record) entering today.
* Defensively, Michael Stevens leads the team with 33 tackles and Kyzer Bowen has 29. Reigning HCAC Defensive Player of the Week Rashard Brown has added a team-high 2 interceptions.
* Michael Stevens (LB) and Shane Welshans (RB) were named first-team Preseason All-Americans by College Football America; and 2nd-team preseason All-Americans by Lindy's Football Magazine. Welshans was also a preseason second-team All-American from D3football.com.

DEFIANCE NOTES:
* Defiance (0-3, 0-0 HCAC) had its best performance of the 2021 season last weekend in a narrow 35-28 loss to Alfred State.
* Cole Recker led the offense with a 22-44 performance for 215 yards and 2 TD passes, and also rushed for 45 yards and another score.
* Machari Bighams led the receivers with five receptions for 60 yards and a score against Alfred State.
* Defensively, Thomas Coltrain had the big day last week with 12 tackles, 3 tackles for-loss and 1 sack...Defiance also has losses to Capital (41-7) and Albion (51-0) so far this season
