NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- Manchester University relied on hot shooting behind the 3-point arc to pick up a narrow 73-69 men's basketball victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday night.
Manchester hit 15 three-point shots to pick up the narrow victory in a game that featured several scoring streaks.
The teams were tied 36-36 at the half, before Rose-Hulman opened the second half on a 13-2 run to take a 49-38 lead.Â
Max Chaplin, who scored a career-high 21 points on the night, had 5 points in the rally and
Trey Wurtz scored 6 points in the spurt.
Manchester answered with a 22-4 run to take a 60-53 lead with 10:00 left. Rose-Hulman fought back with an 8-0 run of its own to take a 61-60 lead on two free throws by Chaplin at the 5:20 mark.
Down the stretch, Manchester relied on the 3-point shot to built a 72-67 lead. Chaplin hit two free throws to bring the Fightin' Engineers within 3 points at 72-69, and Rose-Hulman had a 3-point try of its own in the final seconds to force overtime that rimmed out.
Chaplin tallied career-high totals of 21 points and 6 rebounds on 6-14 from the field and a perfect 8-8 on the free throw line.
Terry Hicks added a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Wurtz scored 8 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists.Â
Willie Bowman added 7 first half points to keep Rose-Hulman close in the opening 20 minutes.

Samvit Ram with 6 points and 5 rebounds; and
Jackson Kabrick,
Vuk Djuric,
Isaac Farnsworth and
Zachary Jackson with 4 rebounds. Farnsworth pitched in with 8 rebounds as the Fightin' Engineers outrebounded Manchester 47-23 in the contest.
Brandon Christlieb led Manchester with 17 points. Ty Lynas had 14 points, and Logan Willoughby also reached double figures for the Spartans with 13 points.
Manchester improved to 5-2 in HCAC play and 6-8 overall, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 8-4 and 4-2 in league play. The Fightin' Engineers return home to face Defiance College on Saturday at 3 pm.
