ANDERSON, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology picked up its first win of the 2022 football season in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener, topping Anderson University 45-7 on the road on Saturday.
Miguel Robertson tossed 3 touchdown passes and completed 12-of-20 passes for 109 yards to lead the offensive effort.Â
Grant Ripperda balanced the offensive attack with 121 rushing yards on 18 carries.
Daniel Huery scored a pair of touchdowns on the day, rushing for 63 yards on 5 carries and recording 6 receptions for 59 yards.Â
Alex Gresock added two rushing touchdowns, withÂ
Jailen Hobbs and
Adam Tice-Saliu contributed receiving touchdowns for the Fightin' Engineers.
Defensively,
Chaikou Sow had a team-high 6 tackles and 1 pass breakup for Rose-Hulman.Â
Riley Roberts added 5Â tackles, 1 pass breakup and 1 blocked kick.Â
Deven Cobb and
Ryan Schmidt led a 3-sack performance with 1 sack each.
Rose-Hulman rushed for 343 yards on 55 carries and gained 452 total offensive yards in the performance. The defense was just an impressive, holding Anderson to just 188 yards and 3.1 yards per play.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 24-0 lead at the half. Gresock opened the scoring with a 4-yard run, then Robertson connected with Hobbs on a 6-yard pass to make the score 14-0 after the first quarter.
Kyle Rehberg booted a 32-yard field goal to make the lead 17-0. Robertson and Tice-Saliu hooked up on a 17-yard touchdown pass to increase the lead to 24-0 at the break.
In the second half, Huery scored on a 20-yard touchdown run and caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Robertson to make the score 38-0 after the third quarter.
Gresock capped the Rose-Hulman scoring with a 40-yard touchdown for his second rushing sccore of the day. Anderson dented the scoreboard for its only touchdown with 5:37 left in the game.
Rose-Hulman improved to 1-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while Anderson dropped to 0-4. The Fightin' Engineers host Manchester University in the annual Homecoming Game on Saturday Oct. 8 at 2 pm.
