TERRE HAUTE, Indiana -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team cruised to a 9-1 win over Franklin thanks to a pair of hat tricks from
AJ Yilmaz and
Takezo Kelly. The Fightin' Engineers improve to 11-1-2 on the season and a perfect 7-0-0 in the HCAC.
The Fightin' Engineers came out of the gate slow as they were unable to score in the first 30 minutes of action. However, once the first goal went in, the flood gates would open.
Takezo Kelly broke the seal for the Fightin' Engineers with a goal in the 33rd minute following a pass across the box from
Tyler Eldridge.
Then, in the 35th minute, Kelly would score his second goal on a scissor kick off of a pass from
AJ Yilmaz and cross from
Elijah Hardersen.
In the 37th minute, Yilmaz would keep the pressure on with a goal following a pass from Kelly.
Franklin would get on the board in the 39th minute off of a set piece. Eddy Yousak took a shot that was saved by Trinh in goal, but Cooper Gross followed up with the rebound and scored it.
Not phased by the goal, the Fightin' Engineers would grab two more goals before the half as Kelly would grab his hat trick in the 41st minute off of a pass from Yilmaz, and Yilmaz would score his second off of a cross from
Caleb Urban and flick from Eldridge.
In the second half, it was more of the same for the Fightin' Engineers as
Matthew Schwartz slotted home a goal from Eldridge in the 65th minutes.
Eldridge would put one home in the 67th minute following a great pass from
Jacob Dirienzo.
Yilmaz would complete his hat trick in the 70th minute off of a pass from Schwartz, and
Connor Patton would finish off the scoring with a strike from outside the box in the 78th minute.
Michael Trinh and
John Biederstedt combined for the shutout. Trinh made a pair of saves in addition to his goal allowed.
The Fightin' Engineers would outshoot Franklin 28-4 in the win.
Rose-Hulman will return to the pitch on Saturday at 3:30 PM as they host Transylvania for their home finale and Senior Day.
