ADA, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team ended their outstanding 2022 season with a 1-0 loss to #15 North Park in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Fightin' Engineers got the game started quickly with a couple of great shots in the first half.
Takezo Kelly started it off in the 21st minute with a header to the corner that resulted in an outstanding diving save by the North Park keeper.
Then, the Vikings came back down the pitch and capitalized with a goal from Tobias Lunde in the 26th minute. The Fightin' Engineers had a couple more quality shots from
Caleb Urban and
Jackson Seida, but they were unable to capitalize in the first half.
In the second half, the Vikings came out and scored two goals 57th and 68th minutes of action.
The Fightin' Engineers did not quit though as they fought back and scored a goal in the 81st minute. They also had several more chances in the final minutes, but they were unable to get another one in the back of the net.
Rose-Hulman controlled much of the game and created the better chances in the match as they outshot North Park 15-10, but North Park was able to capitalize on their chances to pick up the win.
Michael Trinh made three saves in goal for Rose-Hulman. Kelly led the Fightin' Engineers in shots with seven.
Rose-Hulman finishes the season with a 13-2-4 record and their sixth all-time NCAA tournament appearance.
