Men's Basketball Heads to Wabash for Great Lakes Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology looks to bounce back from last week with a pair of games at the Great Lakes Invitational at Wabash College this weekend. The Fightin' Enginers will take on Baldwin Wallace on Friday at 3:00 PM and Trine on Saturday at 1:00 PM.

ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman finished 15-10 last season and has been picked to finish third in the HCAC this season, according to the preseason coaches poll.
* Rose-Hulman narrowly fell 80-75 to DePauw in the 2021-22 season opener. Max Chaplin scored 16 points to lead the Fightin' Engineers. Chaplin was joined in double figures by Bradley Harden (11), Simon Blair (10), and Zachary Jackson (10).
* Head coach Nick Sales is the new head coach for Rose-Hulman. Sales was an associate head coach at Marietta for the past nine seasons where he won seven OAC regular season championships, made three NCAA tournaments, and reached the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2022. Sales was 204-45 on staff at Marietta.
* Terry Hicks was named to the all-HCAC second team after averaging 10.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game last season.
* Max Chaplin was also named all-HCAC honorable mention following his team-high 11.8 points per game.
* Rose-Hulman seeks its first HCAC regular season championship since 2018 and its first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance since 2014 this season.

BALDWIN WALLACE GAME NOTES:
* Baldwin Wallace is coming off a 15-10 season last year and was picked to finish sixth in the OAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
* Baldwin Wallace beat Hiram in their season opener on Saturday night. Anthony Mazzeo led the team with 24 points. Jackson Simmons also added a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
* The Yellow Jackets return its top two scorers from last season in Anthony Mazzeo and Jake Snyder, a pair of senior guards.
* Baldwin Wallace shot 37% from three last season, and they were 45% from three in their win over Hiram. They also averaged just under 10 three per game last season.
* Baldwin Wallace will play on Saturday in the Great Lakes Invitational against Benedictine (IL) at 3:00 PM.

TRINE GAME NOTES:
* Trine is coming off of an 18-9 season last year and was picked to finish second in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
* Trine opened their season 2-0 with wins over Manchester (78-67) and Earlham (70-61) in their first two games.
* The Thunder graduated their top four scorers from the 2021-22 season. Those four players accounted for 65% of the points for the Thunder last season.
* Brent Cox has led the Thunder in scoring with a pair of 20-point performances to start the season. Cox is also averaging 9 rebounds per game to start the season.
* Connor Jones does it all for Trine as he is averaging 16.5 points per game as well as 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game.
* Trine will play on Friday afternoon of the Great Lakes Invitational against Benedictine (IL) at 1:00 PM.

SERIES HISTORY:
* Baldwin Wallace leads the all-time series 3-1.
* The Fightin' Engineers won 77-68 back in 2016, and the Yellow Jackets won the three meetings in 1970, 1980, and 1981.
* Trine leads the all-time series 2-0.
* The Thunder won back-to-back years in 2005 and 2006 by single digits.
