TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team opens the 2022-23 season with a weekend in Pennsylvania for the Mountain Valley Tip-Off Classic. The Fightin' Engineers will play at Penn State - Altoona on Saturday at 7:00 PM, and they will play at Mount Aloysius on Sunday at 3:00 PM.
ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman comes off a strong 2021-22 season after finishing 12-9 overall and 9-5 in HCAC play. The Fightin' Engineers came the closest to knocking off undefeated and eventual Elite Eight qualifier Transylvania during the Pioneers unbeaten regular season, narrowly falling in overtime 72-68.
* All-conference standout
Jamie Baum has a second sport interest. The second-team all-HCAC women's basketball player led the Fightin' Engineers in scoring (12.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg) on the court last winter. In the summer, Baum is a member of the USA Baseball Women's National Team. Baum was part of a team that finished 3-2 in Canada last summer.
*The Fightin' Engineers were picked to finish 4th in the HCAC this season, behind Transylvania, Hanover and Bluffton in the league's preseason poll.
* The senior class includes
Rose Burnham,
Avery Lewman and
Nola Wilson. Burnham is a 3-year starter and entered the season with nearly 300 points and nearly 300 rebounds. Lewman has appeared in 29 career games as a Fightin' Engineer. Wilson has scored nearly 300 points at Rose-Hulman with 12-double figure games for the women's basketball program.

Jon Prevo has crossed the 200-win mark at Rose-Hulman. Prevo has a 211-186 record as the winningest coach in program history.
PENN STATE - ALTOONA GAME NOTES:
* Penn State - Altoona is coming off a 7-18 season last year and was picked to finish sixth in the AMCC Preseason Coaches Poll.
* Penn State - Altoona fell to Chatham (47-86) and East Mennonite (48-54) in their first two games of the season.Â
* The Nittany Lions are led in scoring by a pair of freshmen, Avana Sayles and Jess Burns at nine points per game. Senior Sarah Huston also has added nine points.
* The Nittany Lions lost three of their top four scorers from last season. Those three accounted for 64% of the scoring for PSU-Altoona.
* Penn State - Altoona will play on Sunday against Keuka at 1:00 PM on the second day of the Mountain Valley Tip-Off Classic.
MOUNT ALOYSIUS GAME NOTES:
* Mount Aloysius is coming off of an 4-21 season last year and was picked to finish seventh in the AMCC Preseason Coaches Poll.
* Mount Aloysius opened their season 0-3 with losses to Lycoming (47-70), Arcadia (52-67), and Neumann (62-81).
* The Mounties graduated two of their top three scorers from the 2021-22 season. They only return 44% of their points from last season. Their leading scorer from last season is Cameron Bates who averaged 14.3 points.
* Bates has been in double figures in all three games for the Mounties with 18, 10, and 15.
* The Mounties have improved their outside shooting by shooting 42% (6-15 and 7-16) in the last two games.Â
* Mount Aloysius will play on Saturday afternoon against Keuka at 5:00 PM on the first day of the Mountain Valley Tip-Off Classic.
SERIES HISTORY:
* This will be the first time in school history that Rose-Hulman has played Penn State - Altoona or Mount Aloysius.
