Men's Basketball Returns to the Road with Tuesday Game at Carthage

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team returns to the court on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 PM CT at Carthage.

ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman sits at 1-2 on the season with losses to DePauw and Trine and a win over Baldwin Wallace.
* Rose-Hulman finished 15-10 last season and has been picked to finish third in the HCAC this season, according to the preseason coaches poll.
* Rose-Hulman narrowly fell 80-75 to DePauw in the 2021-22 season opener. Max Chaplin scored 16 points to lead the Fightin' Engineers. Chaplin was joined in double figures by Bradley Harden (11), Simon Blair (10), and Zachary Jackson (10).
* Chaplin was also in double figures in both games at the Great Lakes Invitational last weekend with 14 and 11. Miles McGowen also stepped up with 12 and 9 points and 11 rebounds in each game.
* Head coach Nick Sales is the new head coach for Rose-Hulman. Sales was an associate head coach at Marietta for the past nine seasons where he won seven OAC regular season championships, made three NCAA tournaments, and reached the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2022. Sales was 204-45 on staff at Marietta.
* Terry Hicks was named to the all-HCAC second team after averaging 10.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game last season.
* Max Chaplin was also named all-HCAC honorable mention following his team-high 11.8 points per game.
* Rose-Hulman seeks its first HCAC regular season championship since 2018 and its first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance since 2014 this season.

CARTHAGE GAME NOTES:
* Carthage comes into this game with a 2-1 record on the season. The Firebirds fell to Whitman in the season opener, but they beat both Beloit and Marian last week.
* Carthage is coming off a 9-16 season last year and was picked to finish eighth in the CCIW Preseason Coaches Poll.
* The Firebirds have four guys averaging double figures on the season.
* Fillip Bulatovic leads the way in both scoring and rebounding with 18 points and 8 rebounds per game.
* Antuan Nesbitt and Colton Sigel have each played in all three games and are averaging 13 and 11 points.
* Carthage has struggled from the outside this season shooting just 24% (15-62).
* The Firebirds have forced nearly 18 turnovers a game this season while committing just 12 per game.

SERIES HISTORY:
* The all-time series is tied 1-1.
* Rose-Hulman won the first meeting back in 1991 by a score of 74-64.
* Carthage won the game at Carthage back in 2019 by a score of 63-73.
