Men's Soccer Travels to Ohio to Face #15 North Park in NCAA Tournament

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team is headed to Ohio to face #15 North Park University in the NCAA Division III Tournament opening round game on Saturday Nov. 12 at 3:30 PM or 45 minutes after the completion of the 1:00 PM game.

Ohio Northern University is the host of a 4-team tournament that takes place Saturday and Sunday as the field reduces from 64 teams to 16.  Rose-Hulman faces North Park on Saturday, along with Ohio Northern squaring off with Mount Aloysius.  The winners face off in the NCAA Division III Round of 32 on Sunday.

Rose-Hulman stands 13-1-4 entering the NCAA Tournament, while North Park has a 14-3-2 mark. The Fightin' Engineers earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament by virtue of their Penalty Shootout win over Hanover College in the HCAC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday. 

NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY:
* Rose-Hulman is making its 6th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history with the last coming in 2015. The Fightin' Engineers made the tournament in 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015 under the leadership of Sean Helliwell. In 2014 and 2015, the Fightin' Engineers drew Hope and Wisconsin-Whitewater 0-0 before falling in Penalty Kicks in both matches. The Fightin' Engineers made the second weekend of the tournament in 2013 with a shootout win over Penn State - Behrend and a 1-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan.
* Rose-Hulman broke a six-year NCAA Tournament drought this year. They join North Central, Roger Williams, Muhlenberg, and Husson who all broke streaks of six years or longer.
* North Park is making its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance with an overall record of 11-9. In 2021, the Vikings made it to the fourth round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Chicago. In 2017, North Park made it to the NCAA Championship game before falling to Messiah.

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman comes into this match with a 13-1-4 record and 9-0-2 record against HCAC opponents.
* The Fightin' Engineers are unbeaten in their last 11 games which is the ninth longest streak in the country. 
* Takezo Kelly, 3-time HCAC Offensive Player of the Year and a 2021 1st-team all-region selection, leads the Fightin' Engineers ranks No. 4 in Rose-Hulman history with 37 goals and 90 points.
* Caleb Urban, a 3-time first-team all-HCAC selection and 2022 Midfielder of the Year, is tied for 2nd in Rose-Hulman history with 24 career assists.
* Kelly leads the team with 11 goals and 27 points.  AJ Yilmaz, a second-team all-HCAC selection, has added 9 goals and 22 points.
* Tyler Eldridge has a team-high 8 assists to along with 3 goals.  Urban has contributed 7 assists to the offense this season.
* Defenders Zach Buvalic and Jacob Pohl were named to the first-team all-HCAC this season. Luke Dawdy and Kai Moore were also named second-team all-HCAC.
* The goalkeeping tandem of John Biederstedt (9-1-2, 0.61 GAA) and Michael Trinh (4-0-2, 0.46 GAA) have combined for 43 saves and an .811 save percentage.
* Trinh played all 110 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Hanover in the HCAC Championship and made 5 saves. Biederstedt came in for the Penalty Shootout and made a huge save to lead the Fightin' Engineers to victory.
* The Fightin' Engineers have recorded 10 shutouts this season which is tied for tenth in the country, and their 0.55 goals allowed per game ranks tenth in the country as well.
* The Fightin' Engineers currently rank 3rd in Goals Against Average (0.55), 4th in Single-Season Points (128), 4th in Single-Season Assists (40), and 5th in Single-Season Goals (44).
* Head coach Sean Helliwell holds Rose-Hulman's career coaching school records with a mark of 186-67-39.  The 10-time HCAC Coach of the Year has an incredible HCAC regular season record of 111-9-13.

NORTH PARK NOTES:
* North Park comes into the game at 14-3-2 with a runners up finish in the CCIW Tournament.
* The Vikings have played two common opponents with the Fightin' Engineers. North Park tied and lost to North Central in their two meetings, and they defeated Ohio Northern 3-2. Rose-Hulman drew North Central and fell to Ohio Northern.
* Isak Flo leads North Park in goals with 11. Tobias Lunde has also added 8 goals. Each Flo and Lunde have added 5 assists.
* Angel Barriga leads the team in assists with 7.
* Alfred Sward and Sebastianas Uribe have led the two-headed monster in goal for the Vikings. The two keepers have made 67 saves and allowed 19 goals on the season with 9 team shutouts.

* North Park won each of the previous meetings 2-0 in 2014 and 1-0 in 2013.
