TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A huge second half leads the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team past Transylvania in their HCAC and Home Opener on Saturday. The Fightin' Engineers won the game 74-59.
In the first half, the Fightin' Engineers hot shooting from the outside led to a 7 point lead late in the half.
Willie Bowman led Rose-Hulman with 16 first-half points including 4-5 shooting from beyond the arc.Â
The Fightin' Engineers came out of the locker room with a purpose and grew the lead to 12 quickly after a three from
Max Chaplin and an and-one finish by
Miles McGowen.
Simon Blair then knocked down a triple with 15:00 on the clock to get the lead to 15.
Three consecutive triples by
Bradley Harden,
Max Chaplin, and
Isaac Farnsworth put Rose-Hulman up 26 with 8 minutes to go in the game. Transylvania would not et the lead back under 20 points until the final two minutes of the game.
Max Chaplin led the way with 19 points including three triples.
Willie Bowman finished the game with 16 points which all came in his huge first half.
Bradley Harden added 9 points and 3 assists.
Miles McGowen added 8 points and 4 rebounds, and
Simon Blair had a stat-stuffing day with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.
Rose-Hulman improved to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in the HCAC, while Transylvania dropped to 2-4 and 0-2 in the HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers hit the road once again on Wednesday night as they travel to Earlham College for the annual John Mutchner Cup game.
