CLERMONT, Fla. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 3-1 on the season with a doubleheader sweep 2-1 over Houghton and 6-3 over North Central (Minn.) on Tuesday.
In the opener, Ariel Thomasson enjoyed a dominant pitching performance, and Ashley Pinkham provided the game-winning single in the 2-1 victory.Â
Thomasson tossed a complete-game two-hitter with just two walks and 11 strikeouts to improve to 2-0 on the Florida trip.  With the score tied 1-1 in the top of the seventh, Pinkham provided the eventual game winning RBI on a single that scored Reagan Knabe.
Rose-Hulman took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning with a double steal of second and home. MaKenzie Morgan stole second, and Pheobe Worstell stole home to put the Engineers on top.
In the second game, Pinkham had three hits including a double, scored twice and had three RBIs to propel the offense in a 6-3 win.  MaKenzie Morgan added a triple, walk and two runs scored. Thomasson and Nicole Lang had two hits each, with Lang adding a double and an RBI.
Phoebe Worstell got the win out of the bullpen for Rose-Hulman. The right-hander went three shutout innings, giving up one hit, two walks and striking out two. Baylee Uhrick pitched four innings without allowing an earned run and recorded seven strikeouts to start the contest.
Rose-Hulman stands 3-1 and faces Elizabethtown (11 am) and New England College (1:15 pm) on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Engineers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the sixth inning. Freshman Phoebe Worstell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Rose-Hulman and get them on the board.
The Highlanders then tied the ballgame at one before the Engineers came back to reclaim their advantage in the seventh inning. Rose-Hulman scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Pinkham, which brought the Engineers lead to 2-1. The score remained 2-1 for the rest of the game, as Rose-Hulman held on for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Engineers were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Rose-Hulman got an RBI single from Lang, scoring Pinkham from second base.
The Rams broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fifth inning, when the Engineers got back on the scoreboard. Rose-Hulman scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from Pinkham, which brought the Engineers lead to 4-3.
Rose-Hulman held North Central (MN) scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-3 the following inning. The Engineers recorded two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Morgan. The score remained 6-3 for the rest of the game, as Rose-Hulman held on for the win.
