Rose-Hulman Softball Sweeps Eureka, Improves to 11-3

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 11-3 on the softball season with a 13-1 and 9-1 doubleheader sweep victory over Eureka College on Saturday.

In the opener, Angela Boulboulle finished 2-3 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the Fightin' Engineer offense.  Nicole Lang added a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Reagan Knabe and Hailey Hofmann added two hits and one run each for the balanced attack.

Ariel Thomasson picked up the pitching win by tossing the full five-inning complete game.  Thomasson allowed four hits with five strikeouts in the win.

In the nightcap, Phoebe Worstell tossed a complete game five-hitter with four strikeouts in the Rose-Hulman victory.

Kennedy Michnewicz had a team-high three hits with two RBIs in the game two win.  Katie Palmer added two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Knabe contributed a double and three RBIs.

Ashley Pinkham, Nicole Lang, Thomasson and Boulboulle had multi-hit performances wth two hits each.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at home on Wednesday March 30 with a 5 pm doubleheader against Greenville.

GAME 1 | Rose-Hulman 13, Eureka 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Engineers got the scoring started early, putting three runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Rose-Hulman scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Lang.

The Red Devils failed to push any runs across before the Engineers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Rose-Hulman offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of sophomore Reagan Knabe, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Engineers.

Eureka narrowed Rose-Hulman's lead to 7-1 before the Engineers stretched the advantage to 13-1 in the fourth inning. The Engineers bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Boulboulle. The score remained 13-1 for the rest of the game, as Rose-Hulman coasted to the win.

The Engineers then held the Red Devils scoreless before expanding their lead in the fifth inning. Rose-Hulman scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from Palmer, which brought the Engineers lead to 5-0.
