Rose-Hulman Softball Falls to Transylvania in Home Twinbill

NOTE: Sunday's Spalding doubleheader has been canceled due to projected rain and will not be made up. Rose-Hulman returns home to face Hanover on Monday in a 5:30 pm doubleheader, weather permitting.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology pushed Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference co-leader Transylvania University in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, before falling 7-1 and 9-3 at the Engineer Softball Field.

In the opener, Nicole Lang led the Rose-Hulman offense with a solo home run.  Ariel Thomasson added a single and struck out seven in a complete game in the pitching circle.

In game two, Rose-Hulman led Transylvania 3-1 after three innings before the Pioneer offense secured the victory.

MaKenzie Morgan led the Fightin' Engineers with a double, a triple and two runs scored in game two.  Thomasson also had a single and an RBI, with Ashley Pinkham providing the Fightin' Engineers other RBI.

Sunday's home game with Spalding has been canceled due to projected rain, so Rose-Hulman (13-13) returns home to face Hanover on Monday in a 5:30 pm doubleheader.

GAME 1 | Transylvania 7, Rose-Hulman 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 7-0, the Engineers first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Lang put Rose-Hulman on the board with a leadoff home run off Carlee Jeter. The Engineers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Engineers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Rose-Hulman got an RBI single from junior Ashley Pinkham, scoring Morgan from third base.

The Pioneers then tied the ballgame at one before the Engineers came back to reclaim their advantage in the third inning. Thomasson's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Rose-Hulman scored twice, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Engineers. The Engineers were unable to hold the lead, as Transylvania scored eight times over the remaining four innings to grab the 9-3 win.
