Strong Pitching Effort Leads Baseball Past Greenville 5-2

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team allowed just one hit over the first seven innings and relied on timely hitting to defeat Greenville University 5-2 on Wednesday night.

Alec Lewandowski, Michael Yager and Paul Durell held the Panthers to just one hit in the first seven innings as Rose-Hulman built a lead.  Lewandowski allowed one hit and one run in three innings; Yager tossed three scoreless innings; and Durell tossed two scoreless innings.  Schuyer Wilcox struck out the side in the ninth to secure the win.

Offensively, Brett Tuttle led the Fightin' Engineers with a 2-run home run in the ninth inning.  Josh Mesenbrink added two singles, one run and one RBI.  Drew Roberts pitched in with a single, one run scored and one RBI.

Rose-Hulman improved to 20-10 on the season with the victory, while Greenville dropped to 15-19.  The Fightin' Engineers return home to face Bluffton University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Sunday at noon - a new game date caused by projected rain.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Engineers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Rose-Hulman got an RBI single from Mesenbrink, scoring Tuttle from third base.

The Panthers then tied the ballgame at one before the Engineers came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. Rose-Hulman scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Roberts, which brought the Engineers lead to 2-1.

Rose-Hulman held Greenville without a run before building their lead to 3-1 in the eighth inning. The Engineers scored once on a run-scoring single off the bat of senior Harrison Finch.

Rose-Hulman kept the Panthers scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Engineers scored twice on Tuttle's two-run homer, bringing the Rose-Hulman advantage to 5-1. Greenville put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Engineers still held on for the 5-2 win.
