TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's volleyball team swept the Franklin Grizzlies on Tuesday night for a big HCAC victory. The win moves the Fightin' Engineers to 13-11 on the season and back to 3-3 in the HCAC.
The start of the match was a back and forth battle until the Fightin' Engineers would take control with the match tied at 11.
Lily Ebright would serve eight consecutive times and extend the Rose-Hulman lead to 20-11. Franklin would make a strong comeback with six straight points, but the Fightin' Engineers would hold on for 25-18 win in the opening set.
Franklin would take the lead again early in the set at 7-4, but Rose-Hulman would ride five service aces to a 22-12 and an eventual 25-14 set victory.
The Grizzlies again came out firing to open the third set with leads of 9-5 and 11-7. Rose-Hulman would fight back again to take their first lead of the set at 15-14. The Fightin' Engineers would use a strong of four straight points for the third straight set to take control of the match and win the match 25-19.
Sophia Koop led the team with 11 kills in the match.
Kate Wood added 7 kills with a team-high hitting percentage of .250.
Jillian Gregg added 26 assists and 4 service aces in the match, and
Lily Ebright and
Kylie Rathbun added 19 and 14 digs in the win.
The Fightin' Engineers will return to the court on Saturday, October 28 at 4 PM as they host the Hanover Panthers in their second to last home game of the season.
