TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers hosted Anderson University in the opening round of the HCAC Women's Soccer Tournament. The team defeated the Ravens in overtime with a final score of 2-1 to advance to the HCAC Semifinal. This improves the team to 8-3-5 overall on the season.
The Rose-Hulman women's team has not come back to win a match after giving up the first goal since 2019.Â
Both team's were battling the elements as the rain started to come down during the match. Both team's remained scoreless after the first half with Rose leading the game in shots 6-3 at halftime.
Anderson got on the board first with a goal in the 59th minute by Riley Schultz to take the lead 0-1. A penalty in the box led to a penalty kick goal by
Kyra Hicks in the 68th minute to tie the game. The score would remain 1-1 at the end of regulation to force overtime.Â
Hicks connected with the net on a header after an assist by
Lauren Marquardt in the 102nd minute to give Rose-Hulman the go ahead goal. The Engineers held off multiple attempts by the Ravens to claim the victory and advance in the tournament.Â
Lily Dore represented the Engineers in goal recording four saves in the match.Â
Rose-Hulman will advance to the HCAC Semifinal and travel to face Hanover College on Tuesday, 10/31 at 2 PM.Â
