TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team travels to California for a pair of games before Thanksgiving. They open their trip at La Verne on Saturday at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET.
ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* The Fightin' Engineers come in at 0-1 on the season after a 68-56 loss to Saint Mary of the Woods in the season opener.
*
Jamie Baum led the team in scoring with 11 points in the loss despite her tough shooting performance.
* Freshman
Grace Roland recorded a double-double in her collegiate debut with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
*
Manuella Shomba and
Sophia Reese also finished in double figures in the season opener. Reese also led the team with 3 assists.
* Rose-Hulman is led by a strong senior class featuring
Ashley Black,
Mira Randolph,
Peyton Miller, and a pair of newcomers including
Neha Vinesh and Shomba.Â
* The Fightin' Engineers also brought in a strong five-player freshman class including Reese,
Manasi Manikantan, Roland,
María Godoy-Rodriguez, and
Emilia Diaz.
* Head coach
Devrinn Paul is in his first season as a head coach with Rose-Hulman.
* The Fightin' Engineers will return to the court on November 20 as they wrap up their California trip with a game at Caltech.
LA VERNEÂ NOTES:
* La Verne opens their season at home against Rose-Hulman on Saturday.
* The Leopards lost to a pair of Division I schools, Fresno State and Utah Tech, in a pair of exhibition games to open the season.
* La Verne is coming off a 24-2 season and a SCIAC Regular Season championship after finishing 15-1 in league play.
* The Leopards received votes in the final eight D3hoops Top 25 polls, and they were ranked #23 in the country, the first time they've been ranked in school history.
* Their lone losses of the season came to Redlands and Pomona-Pitzer in two of the final five games of the season.
* The Leopards return their top two scorers from last season with Chiara Brown (13.8 PPG) and Marissa Howell (13.0 PPG).
* After this game, La Verne will host Life Pacific on Tuesday.
SERIES HISTORY:
* La Verne won the only matchup between these two schools back in 2009.
* The Leopards came away with a 65-48 victory in the consolation game of the McWilliams Classic at WashU.
* La Verne set the tournament record with 14 made threes in the win.
* Nicole Klass led the Fightin' Engineers with 13 points, and Athletic Hall of Famer Alisa Dickerson added 12 points and 9 rebounds.
