TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to St. Mary of the Woods in the season opener, 68-56.
The Pomeroys controlled most of the game with the lead, but the Fightin' Engineers had several chances to take control in the first half.
In the second half, Saint Mary of the Woods took advantage of the Rose-Hulman turnovers with by scoring 33 points in the quarter to take a 27 point lead.
The Rose-Hulman offense came alive in the fourth quarter, and they fed off the energy of their defense by outscoring the Pomeroys 23-8, but it was too little too late for the Fightin' Engineers.
Turnovers and three-point shooting were the difference as Rose-Hulman turned it over 24 times and shot just 3-17 from the three-point line.
Four Fightin' Engineers led the team in double figures including
Jamie Baum (11),
Grace Roland (10),
Sophia Reese (10), and
Manuella Shomba (10).
Roland finished with a double double in her Rose-Hulman debut with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Reese added 3 assists, and
CK Gallegos-Rodriguez and Baum led with 3 steals.
The Fightin' Engineers return to action on November 18 as they travel to California to take on La Verne.
