NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Fightin' Engineers outlast the first-place Manchester Spartans and bring home a big 93-92 win on the road. Rose-Hulman was down a pair of starters and had a third foul out, but the Fightin' Engineers were able to fight and claw to bring home the road win.
The Spartans were outstanding shooting it from the outside going 10-18 in the first half to build a 15-point lead. The Fightin' Engineers shot just 2-12 from the outside in the first half.
In the second half, Rose-Hulman was able to fight back and cut the lead to 5 with a 14-3 start to the second half in the first four minutes. Manchester would respond with a 7-0 run to get it back to double figures, but for the first part of the second half, it seemed that Rose-Hulman was able to answer every Manchester run. The Fightin' Engineers were able to eventually tie the game on a
Bradley Harden three with just over 7 minutes to go, and they took the lead on another Harden three just moments later.
From that point on, the entire game would be played within one possession as the teams continued to match each other shot for shot.
Simon Blair would give Rose-Hulman their largest lead since the 15:00 mark in the first half at 77-73. Manchester would tie the game at 77, and then tie it again at 79 on a bucket and a foul by Zach Sawyer with just 17 seconds to go. However, after a missed free throw, the Fightin' Engineers would have one final chance at the buzzer, but a turnover would send the game to overtime.
In overtime, teams continued to trade big bucket after big bucket. Harden knocked another down a triple to put Rose-Hulman up three with a minute ago, but Manchester answered right back with a stepback three from Sawyer to tie the game. Harden then hit a finger roll at the rim with 32 seconds to go to put Rose back up by 2. A couple of Manchester misses and Rose-Hulman free throws later, and Rose-Hulman would bring home the win.
The Fightin' Engineers had three 20-point scorers with Harden leading the way with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Willie Bowman added 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, and
Kobe Stoudemire added 20 points including the final two free throws to bring home the win.
Miles McGowen added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and after McGowen fouled out, Blair stepped up to play some huge minutes with 6 points and 10 rebounds.
Saywer led Manchester with 29 points in the loss. Logan Willoughby also added 18.
Rose-Hulman improves to 13-9 overall and 10-5 in HCAC play, while Manchester dropped to 13-9 and 11-4 in league games. Rose-Hulman remains in fourth place in the HCAC, just one game back of Hanover and Manchester for second. The Fightin' Engineers return home on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 as they host Defiance on Senior Day.
