HANOVER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's bid for a share of the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis regular season championship came just one point short in a 5-4 loss to Hanover College on Saturday.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Owen Reynolds and
Rhian Seneviratne battled to pick up an 8-7 win, including a 7-5 tiebreak victory, to help the Fightin' Engineers lead after doubles.Â
Renato Prado and Jonathan Stadler added an 8-2 win at the No. 3 flight.
The No. 2 doubles team of
Grant Paradowski and
Andrew Leonard nearly completed a 3-0 doubles sweep before falling 7-4 in a tiebreak to Hanover, giving Rose-Hulman a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Rose-Hulman reached four points in the match with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 win by Paradowski at No. 2 singles and a 7-6, 7-5 win by Leonard at No. 5 singles.
The match was decided in an incredibly close match at the No. 4 flight, where Prado fell just shy 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 as Hanover captured the HCAC regular season championship.
Rose-Hulman completes the regular season at 9-9 overall and 4-2 in HCAC play. The Fightin' Engineers open the HCAC Tournament at home against Manchester University on Tuesday April 25.
