FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team took down the Franklin Grizzlies 15-7 in the final game of the three game series.
Franklin opened the scoring in the first with a solo home run. In the second, Rose-Hulman answered with a four spot thanks to a two-run double by
Caleb Frakes, a wild pitch by Franklin, and an RBI groundout by
Jonathan Oliger.
After scoring one in the second, the Fightin' Engineers tacked on two more runs on a bases loaded hit by pitch for Conner O'Connell and a sacrifice fly by Frakes.
Franklin responded with a three-run homer in the third to cut the lead to 6-5, but Rose-Hulman was able to score again in the fourth on a solo home run by
Kade Kline deep over the right field wall.
Franklin once again tied the game at 7 with a run in both the fifth and the sixth, but the Fightin' Engineers had an answer once again.
Andy Krajecki roped one into the left-center gap for an RBI double, and
Mason Rasmussen brought him home with a sacrifice fly for a 9-7 lead.
Then, in the eighth, after a pair of walks,
Dalton Busboom roped a two-run double over the head of the third baseman. Rasmussen also added a single to bring home Busboom. Frakes then blew the game opened with a three-run home run deep over the left field wall for his first career home run to stretch the lead out to 15-7.
O'Connell led the team with three hits, and Krajecki, Rasmussen, and Frakes each added two. Frakes led the team with six RBIs.
Warren Goik closed out the game on the mound with three innings of shutout baseball while only allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman improved to 17-14 on the season and 9-5 in the HCAC, while Franklin fell to 24-8 and 12-2 in the HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers will return to the field on Wednesday at 6:30 PM for a home game at DePauw.
