TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology football team hosts DePauw to open the 2023 regular season at 7 PM on Saturday, September 2.
ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman is coming off a 6-4 record in 2022 that culminated in the HCAC Championship game.
* The Fightin' Engineers had their 15-game HCAC win streak snapped in the 2022 season finale loss to Mt. St. Joseph.
* Rose-Hulman has finished top-2 in the HCAC for four consecutive years, and they were picked to finish top-2 again this year in the preseason poll.

Jeff Sokol is serving in his 13th year at Rose-Hulman with a career record of 77-40 and the top winning percentage in program history at .658. Sokol has led Rose-Hulman to three HCAC titles and NCAA Playoff appearances in 2016 and 2021.

Daniel Huery earned preseason All-American recognition from D3football.com. He was a 2nd-Team All-Region honoree and a 1st-Team all-HCAC honoree in 2022.

Andrew Toler also earned preseason All-American honors from The CFB Network. He was a 1st-Team all-HCAC punter in 2022.
*
Jailen Hobbs is the reigning 2-time HCAC Special Teams Player of the Year after leading the league in kickoff return and punt return average last season.
* Hobbs is coming off an All-American season in 2022 as he became the first two-sport All-American in school history in track and football. He was the first HCAC Athlete of the Year in school history in 2022-23.
* Rose-Hulman will return to the gridiron on Saturday, September 9 at Trine at 7 PM.

* DePauw made its 4th all-time NCAA Playoff appearance last season and their second consecutive
* The Tigers are the 2023 favorite to win their third straight North Coast Athletic Conference championship in the preseason league poll. They were the narrowly chosen top selection over Wabash
* Gus Baumgartner is the lone returning member of the DePauw backfield that had more than 50 carries in 2022. Baumgartner ran for 789 yards and 11 TDs
* Nathan McCahill returns at QB for the Tigers after throwing for 889 yards and 10 TDs last season
* The Tigers return 20 of their 22 defensive starters and backups from last years stout defense that allowed just 15.6 points per game.
* DePauw returns to the field next Saturday with their home opener against the Anderson Ravens.

* DePauw leads the all-time series with Rose-Hulman 44-12-1.
* The Tigers won last season's matchup 17-14 despite a 14-3 lead for the Fightin' Engineers early in the second half.
* DePauw took down the Fightin' Engineers 26-21 in the 2021 Division III NCAA Tournament.
* This is the first meeting between these two teams in Terre Haute since 2011.
* The last Rose-Hulman win over DePauw came in 2003, a 22-11 victory in Terre Haute.
