Women's Soccer Battles Crosstown Rival, SMWC, in Season Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team travels across Terre Haute to take on their crosstown rival, the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Pomeroys to open the 2023 season.

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman is coming off a 10-3-6 season that resulted in an HCAC Tournament Championship and their third all-time NCAA Tournament Appearance.
* The Fightin' Engineers fell to Ohio Northern 1-0 in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament.
* Rose-Hulman was picked to finish 2nd in the HCAC in the preseason coaches poll.
* Defense was the calling card for Rose-Hulman in 2022 as they set school records with eight consecutive shutouts and going 865 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.  
* The Fightin' Engineers return six all-HCAC honorees from their 2022 season including a pair of 1st-teamers with Megan Foder and Lauren Marquardt.
* Amy Helliwell is the defending HCAC Coach of the Year. She won the award for a third time, and she enters her 14th season with Rose-Hulman as the winningest coach in program history with a record of 132-98-20.
* The Fightin' Engineers will return to the field on Sunday afternoon with their home opener against the Knox Prairie Fire at 5 PM.

OPPONENT NOTES:
* St. Mary-of-the-Woods comes in with a 1-2 record on the season that included a 2-1 win over Huntington.
* The Pomeroys finished last season at 4-7-3.
* Junior Kennedy Trigg leads the team in goals this season with 2 on a pair of penalty kicks.
* Sophomore Sierra Mullinns has tallied both of the team's assists and has added a goal as well.
* Goalkeeper Kaylee Thaler has made 31 saves in the team's 3 games while allowing seven goals.
* The Pomeroys will also return to action on Sunday afternoon as they travel up US-40 for a match at DePauw.

SERIES NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series 17-1-1 over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
* The Fightin' Engineers won last season's meeting 5-1 with a brace from Camille Clark and a goal from Lauren Marquardt.
* Rose-Hulman has scored five goals in the last six meetings with the Pomeroys dating back to 2014.
* The lone draw in the series came back in 2013 with a 0-0 matchup in which the team's goalies combined to make 23 saves.
* St. Mary-of-the-Woods has not beaten Rose-Hulman since 2002 when they scored the game-winner in the 101st minute of the game. Rose-Hulman outshot the Pomeroys 43-7 in this 1-0 loss.
