TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology cruised through a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon to finish the weekend 4-0 in their home invitational.
Rose-Hulman pulled out a hard-fought first set over Baldwin Wallace 25-22 to start the day, but the Yellow Jackets were able to tie up the match with a 25-17 win in the second set.
The Fightin' Engineers continued to fight in the next two sets winning 25-22 and 25-20 to bring home a win over a good OAC team.
Rose-Hulman hit just shy of .200 at .197 for the match.
Kate Wood led the way with 14 kills and .375 hitting percentage in the match.
Wood also led the Fightin' Engineers' front line with 5 blocks as the team totaled 13 in the match.
Lily Ebright added 20 digs, and
Jillian Gregg added 14 digs and 22 assists.
In the second match of the day, the Fightin' Engineers came out swinging as they hit 0.275 for the match with 44 kills in 3 sets as they cruised to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 victory over Olivet.
Allie Fults and
Sophia Koop led the team with 11 kills each. Fults hit a whopping .688 for the match while Koop finished at .370.
Gregg and
McKenzie Gross paced the team with 20 and 13 assists. Ebright totaled 21 digs.
Sydney Naibauer recorded 5 of the 9 blocks for the Fightin' Engineers to help dominate the front line.
This 4-0 weekend for Rose-Hulman was their first 4-0 weekend since 2012 at the Illinois College Invitational.
Wood and Ebright were both named to the All-Tournament team by the coaches.
The Fightin' Engineers improve to 10-6 on the season and 5-0 in Hulbert Arena. They will hit the road on Tuesday night for a match at DePauw.
