TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team hosts in-state rival, Wabash College Little Giants, at 7 PM on Wednesday night.
ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman comes in at 1-1 on the season after a 2-1 win over Greenville and a 3-1 loss to Wash U.
* Caleb Urban leads the team with 2 goals, one in each game.
* Matthew Schwartz scored the game-winning goal in the Greenville game off of an assist from Kai Moore.
* Rose-Hulman is coming off a 13-2-4 season that resulting in a sweep of the HCAC regular season and tournament championships. The Fightin' Engineers advanced to their 6th NCAA Tournament in program history.
* The Fightin' Engineers fell to #15 North Park 3-1 in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament. Their lone other loss on the season came at Ohio Northern who finished the year ranked 13th in the country.
* Rose-Hulman was picked to win their fifth consecutive HCAC championship this fall in the preseason coaches poll.
* The Fightin' Engineers have an unprecedented 32 game unbeaten streak in the HCAC regular season dating back to 2019. They are 30-0-2 in that span.
* Rose-Hulman returns four all-HCAC honorees from last year's championship team including a pair of 1st teamers with Jacob Pohl and Caleb Urban, the 2022 HCAC Midfielder of the Year.
* Sean Helliwell is the defending HCAC Coach of the Year. He won the award for the 10th time in his 15 year career. Helliwell is easily the winningest coach in program history with a career record of 187-69-39, and an HCAC record of 111-9-13.
* The Fightin' Engineers will return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Naperville, Illinois to take on #20 North Central at 2 PM CT.
OPPONENT NOTES:
* Wabash comes into the game at 1-0 after a 3-0 victory over Franklin on Friday night.
* Jose Escalante scored a pair of goals in the first eight minutes of their opener to help them cruise to an easy victory.
* The Little Giants were picked to finish 4th place in the NCAC Preseason Poll after finishing in 4th place in 2022.
* Wabash started the 2022 season 9-2-1 with their lone losses coming to Rose-Hulman and Webster. They would finish the year at 12-6-1.
* The Little Giants returns to the pitch this weekend with a trip South to the Berry Invitational where they will play Berry on Saturday and Birmingham-Southern on Sunday.
SERIES NOTES:
* Wabash leads the all-time series 23-18-3 over Rose-Hulman.
* The Fightin' Engineers won last season's matchup in Crawfordsville, 1-0, on a goal from Tatenda Mafa.
* Rose-Hulman is unbeaten in the last five meetings with the Little Giants, including three consecutive wins.
* The last Wabash victory over Rose-Hulman came in 2016, a 2-1 victory in Terre Haute.
* With a win or a draw, the Fightin' Engineers will extend their unbeaten streak against Wabash to six, which would be the longest in streak in school history.
