GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's volleyball team sweeps a pair of MIAA foes to open the NCAC-MIAA Crossover at DePauw University. Rose-Hulman beat Trine in straight sets to open the tournament before sweeping Adrian to close out the night.
Rose-Hulman opened the first set against Trine with a hot start, winning 25-15 while hitting .273 with just three hitting errors.
The second set was back and forth the whole way with neither team able to pull ahead. The Fightin' Engineers took the largest lead of the set at 14-10, but the Thunder fought right back winning five of the next 6 points to tie it at 15. After that, neither team would take a two-point lead until a kill by
Jillian Gregg and a ball handling error by Trine gave the Fightin' Engineers the second set 26-24.
Both teams would hit over .260 in the second set with 31 combined kills to just 10 errors.
The third set continued to be back and forth until the Fightin' Engineers won five straight points at 10 all to give them a 15-10 lead. However, Trine would fight back once again to tie it at 20 before Rose-Hulman pulled away to win the third set 25-22 to win the match.
Kate Wood led the team with 13 kills and a .455 hitting percentage in the match.
Gregg added 9 kills while hitting .450 and led the team with 20 assists.
Lily Ebright led the team with 16 digs.
In the second match, Rose-Hulman was in yet another battle with Adrian College. The Bulldogs won a tight first set 25-23, but the Fightin' Engineers came back to win the second set 25-17.
Adrian would go on a 7-0 run in the third set to help propel them to a 25-19 win. Rose-Hulman would take the fourth set 25-11 thanks to eight blocks by their front line.
In the fourth set, the Fightin' Engineers would ride a 5-0 start thanks to excellent serving by
Gregg, and they would play lights out all set to cruise to a 15-5 victory in the final set.
Wood once again led the team in kills with 15, and
Allie Fults and Gregg were in double figures with 11 and 12.
Gregg added 28 assists, and
Hayden Hamilton reached double figures for the first time in her career with 14.
Lily Ebright recorded 35Â digs in the match. Ebright has now recorded more than 4.5 digs per set in 13 straight matches and 28 of the 30 matches in her career.
