Men's Basketball Beats Transylvania Behind Stoudemire's Amazing Performance

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers hosted the top team in the HCAC on Saturday in their match up with the Transylvania Pioneers. The Fightin' Engineers topped the Pioneers in a big win with a final score of 92-83 to advance Rose-Hulman to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the HCAC. 

Kobe Stoudemire was on fire from the field, ending the game with a career-high 33 points, shooting 10-11 on field goals, 4-4 from beyond the arc, and 9-9 from the free throw line. The Fightin' Engineers had three other players reach double figures including Daniel Savovic (15), Bradley Harden (10), and Miles McGowen (10).

As a team, the Fightin' Engineers had their best game of the season shooting the ball finishing with a 49.2% field goal percentage. Rose Hulman also out-rebounded the Pioneers 39-30 led by Jack Jenniges with nine rebounds on the day. 

After trailing 10-3 early in the first half, the Fightin' Engineers put together a 43-18 run over 12 minutes and 49 seconds to take an 18-point lead. This was topped off by a made three-pointer from Cole Pride to build their largest lead of the game with the score at 46-28. The Pioneers would respond with an 11-0 run to end the half, and Rose-Hulman would take the 46-39 lead into the half.

Transylvania erased the deficit in the second half after tying the game 53-53 with 13:27 left. Both teams traded the lead back and forth for a majority of the second half, and the game would be tied 64-64 with 8:57 to play in the game.

Rose-Hulman took control after that putting together a 16-3 run, including 13 consecutive points by Stoudemire to take control of the game with a 80-67 lead with just three minutes remaining. The team relied on strong free throw shooting to secure the win and hand Transylvania their second loss of the season in conference play.

The Fightin' Engineers will return to action traveling to face the Manchester University Spartans on Wednesday, 1/17 at 7:30 PM.
