Women's Basketball Prevails 60-55 in Tight Battle at Manchester

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team pulled one out late at Manchester to pick up their seventh consecutive road win this season. The Fightin' Engineers trailed 55-53 after a Manchester three, but they scored the final seven points of the game to pull out the victory.

It was a back-and-forth game all the way in North Manchester with 12 lead changes and eight ties throughout the game. The Fightin' Engineers took their biggest lead early at 11-4, but after Manchester cut it to 11-7, the margin would only get bigger than four one more time.

Manchester took a one-point lead into the final quarter of action at 45-44, and their three-pointer in the opening possession gave the Spartans their largest lead at 48-44.

Rose-Hulman would respond with a 9-2 run to retake the lead 53-50 on an Emilia Diaz floater with 5:20 to play, but the Spartans would not go away.

After a Manchester three to put the Spartans in front 55-53 with 2:05 to play, Jamie Baum, Mira Randolph, and Grace Roland went to the line and knocked down seven of eight free throws to take the lead 60-55. Manchester had several chances in the final ten seconds to tie the game, but they were unable to do so.

Manuella Shomba led the Fightin' Engineers with 15 points, and she added 5 rebounds.

Baum added 11 points and led the team with 6 rebounds.

Sophia Reese had a team-high 3 assists to go along with her 7 points and 3 rebounds, and Ashley Black finished with a career-high 4 steals.

The Fightin' Engineers will return to the road on Saturday as they travel to Lexington to take on the defending national champions, #2 Transylvania.
