Women's Basketball Hosts Franklin at 7 PM to Open 2024 Slate

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team opens the 2024 slate and the main part of the HCAC schedule with a big home game against the Franklin College Grizzlies on Wednesday, January 3 at 7 PM.

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman comes in at 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in the HCAC.
* The Fightin' Engineers have won back-to-back games against Elmhurst and Spalding coming into this one.
* Rose-Hulman beat Anderson 83-72 and Bluffton 62-55 in their first two HCAC games of the season. It was their first 2-0 start in the HCAC since 2017.
* Jamie Baum, a second-team all-HCAC selection in 2022, is averaging 13.0 points per game this season. She scored a career-high 25 points in the loss to La Verne earlier this season.
* Baum is currently ranked #1 in NCAA Division III in free throw percentage this year at 95.6%.
* Grace Roland has scored in double figures in nine of eleven games this season, and she leads the team with 13.5 points per game.
* She became just the third player in school history to score 32 points in a game in the win over Elmhurst, and she was named the HCAC Athlete of the Week.
* Manuella Shomba has dominated inside for the Fightin' Engineers this season. She has scored 16 points or more in four of the last seven games.
* Four players recorded double-doubles in the win over Elmhurst including Baum, Roland, Shomba, and Sophia Reese. Reese is averaging 11.3 points and 4.8 assists in the last four games.
* The Fightin' Engineers will return to the court this Saturday as they travel to Defiance to take on the Yellow Jackets on Saturday at 1 PM.

FRANKLIN NOTES:
* The Grizzlies come in at 8-3 on the season and 3-1 in the HCAC.
* Franklin had their four-game win streak snapped on Saturday with an 82-52 loss to DePauw in the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament.
* The Grizzlies rank #15 in the nation in points per game at 78.9, and they have scored 78 points or more in all eight of their wins. In their three losses, they have been held to 58, 52, and 46 points.
* This will be a matchup between the two best free throw shooting teams in the country as Franklin is also #2 in free throws made per game (18.73) and #4 in free throws attempted per game (25.18). Rose-Hulman comes in at #1 and #8 in those categories.
* Jordan Coon leads Franklin in scoring with 10.3 points per game this season. She is the only player averaging double figures for the Grizzlies.
* Franklin has five different players averaging at least 8.0 points per game in their balanced attack.
* CiCi Bailey leads the team on the glass with 5.9 rebounds per game.
* As a team, the Grizzlies are shooting just 30.5% from three, but Maddie Barnes has been lights out at 45.9% from downtown on the season.
* Franklin returns to HCAC play this weekend as they travel to Bluffton to take on the Beavers on Saturday at 1 PM.

* Franklin leads the all-time season series 25-21.
* The Fightin' Engineers have won back-to-back games over the Grizzlies, but Franklin won the three prior meetings.
* Since the 2016 calendar year, Rose-Hulman has won 11 of the 14 games.
