Men's Soccer Season Comes to End in Heartbreaking Fashion

Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in the Semifinal round of the HCAC Tournament on Tuesday night. The team fell short to the Ravens with a final score of 2-1. 

In a wet, rainy affair, both teams struggled to get their footing early on with just one shot in the first 25 minutes of the match.

The Ravens found of the back of the net first in the 38th minute to take the early 1-0 lead.

The best chance of the opening 45 minutes for Rose-Hulman came in the 41st minute as Jacob Pohl put his header off the crossbar on a great set piece opportunity for the Fightin' Engineers.

In the second half, the Fightin' Engineers came out of a cannon and found their equalizer in the 49th minute after Ryan Shapiro drew a foul in the box and Oliver Fila buried the penalty kick.

The two teams continued to battle through the second half with Rose-Hulman controlling the action, outshooting the Ravens 8-0 in the first 36 minutes of the half, but they were unable to find the go-ahead goal. Nick Phillips had the best chance in the 67th minute as his header once again crashed into the crossbar.

Anderson found the game-winner in the 85th minute on just their second shot of the half off a long throw-in bounced around in the six-yard box before it found the foot of a Raven player.

With the loss, Rose-Hulman's season comes to an end with a 10-4-4 record overall.
