ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman football team earned a big win over Anderson University on the road this Saturday with a final score of 28-9. This improves the team to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the HCAC this season.
Jay Smith was the standout offensively with 175 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Kolton Nanko led the receiving core with 93 yards and one receiving touchdown.
Rick Easterwood led the offense finishing 12-26 with 155 yards through the air and two passing touchdowns.
Jack LeCrone was exceptional defensively with a team-high 10 tackles and
Ryan Schmidt made an impact with one interception.
Anderson was able to pin the Fightin' Engineers deep in their own territory to start the game with a 34-yard punt that put Rose-Hulman on their own one-yard line for their first drive. The Ravens were able to take down Smith in the backfield forcing a safety to give Anderson the lead 2-0.
Rose-Hulman answered in the second quarter with a 20-yard touchdown rush by Smith to put the Engineers back in front 7-2. This would be the score at the halftime break.
The Fightin' Engineers opened the second half with a 10-play, 56-yard drive capped off by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Easterwood to
Brandon Green to extend their lead to 14-2.
Rose-Hulman put together another long drive at the beginning of the fourth quarter traveling 68 yards on five plays to reach the end zone on a 30-yard reception from Easterwood to Nanko to extend the lead once again.
The team sealed the win with another rushing touchdown by Smith with 2:40 remaining in the game.
Rose-Hulman will look ahead to compete for the 2024 HCAC title as they wrap up the regular season traveling to take on Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, November 16 at 1:30 PM
