LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball held on late for a 48-47 victory over Spalding on Friday night.
The Fightin' Engineers took a 7-0 lead early, and they wouldn't look back in the first half as Spalding was unable to cut the lead lower than three points for the rest of the half as Rose-Hulman would bring a 23-18 lead into the locker room.
After a dominant third quarter,
CK Gallegos-Rodriguez would stretch the Rose-Hulman lead to 12 at 44-32 early in the fourth quarter.
Katelyn Fennell drilled a triple with 4:16 to go to give the Fightin' Engineers a 48-40 lead, but that would be their final bucket of the contest as the Golden Eagles would cut the lead to one with 2:36 remaining. Neither team was able to buy a bucket in the final two minutes, and the Rose-Hulman defense would get the final stop at the buzzer to hold on for the 48-47 win.
Fennell led the team with 15 points, and
Jamie Baum also finished in double figures with 10. Gallegos-Rodriguez also scored 9 in the win.
With the win, the Fightin' Engineers improve to 6-5 on the season. The team returns to action on Saturday, January 4 as they travel to Kentucky to battle the Berea Mountaineers in their first game of the new year.
