Women's Basketball Battles Grizzlies in HCAC Tournament Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team opens the 2024 HCAC Tournament on Sunday, February 18 at 4 PM with a matchup at the Franklin College Grizzlies.

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman comes in at 12-13 on the season and 9-9 in the HCAC on the season.
* The Fightin' Engineers is locked into the 4-5 game in the HCAC Tournament on Sunday where they will play Franklin again for the second time in three games. With a win, a Manchester win, and a Bluffton win, the Fightin' Engineers will earn the 4 seed and host the opening round.
* Jamie Baum became just the second player in school history to score 20+ points in four consecutive games on Tuesday night's win over Earlham.
* Baum is ranked 5th in the HCAC with 13.3 points per game, 5th in the HCAC with 29 blocks, 10th in the HCAC with 2.5 assists per game, and she leads the HCAC in minutes/game at 34.1.
* Grace Roland is ranked 5th in the HCAC with 7.3 rebounds per game, 9th with 11.6 points per game, and 9th with 23 blocks. Roland has the team-high in points in a game this season with 32 in the win over Elmhurst in December.
* Manuella Shomba is ranked 3rd in the HCAC in rebounding this season with 7.7 per game, and she is averaging double figures with 10.2 per game.
* Freshman guard Sophia Reese has been dishing out assists all year, and she is 3rd in the HCAC with 3.3 per game this year.
* CK Gallegos-Rodriguez made history in the last win over Defiance as the first in school history to record 5 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks in a game.
* Ashley Black ranks top-10 in minutes per game with 29.5, and she is third on the team in points per game with 10.6.
* Rose-Hulman has the top-3 players in the conference in free throws made with Baum (86), Shomba (84), and Roland (79).
* With a win, the Fightin' Engineers will advance to the HCAC Semifinals where they will take on #2 Transylvania on Friday, February 23 at 5 PM in Lexington, Kentucky.

SERIES HISTORY:
* Franklin leads the all-time series over Rose-Hulman 27-21.
* The Grizzlies have won five of the last seven games in the series including winning both matches this season.
* Manuella Shomba and Ashley Black led the Fightin' Engineers in the two losses this season.
* The last Rose-Hulman win in the series came in 2022 when Rose-Hulman swept the season series with 58-45 and 69-31 wins.
