Women's Swim Finishes in 3rd Place at HCAC Championship

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's swimming & diving team records their third consecutive third-place finish at the HCAC Championships.

On day one, Cate Stauffer swam a 1:53.67 on the opening 200 Free to break the school record. The 800 Free Relay team of Stauffer, Lauren Meyer, Hayden Mattick, and Catherine Bath recorded a third place finish with a time of 8:03.20.

Day two featured a record breaking performance in the final of the 500 Free by Bath with a time of 5:07.29. This breaks her own record form earlier in the prelim of the event. Stauffer had similar success breaking the school record in the prelim of the 200 IM before breaking the record again in the final with a time of 2:08.83. Audrey Hankins had a standout performance in the 1-meter diving competition finishing fourth with a score of 320.20. Rose-Hulman ended day two with a second-place finish by the 400 Medley Relay team of Bath, Mattick, Meyer, and Stauffer with a time of 4:05.91. 

On the third day, two more records fell for the Fightin' Engineers as Stauffer captured the first HCAC title of the meet for the Fightin' Engineers. She set the school record in the prelims before swimming even faster in the finals with a time of 4:34.36. Bath also brought home a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle with the second fastest time in school history at 1:56.42. Meyer swam the third-fastest time in school history in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.39 en route to a 4th-place finish. Gabrielle Guffey, Mattick, Allison Kirk, and Brianna Brunk all recorded top-7 individual finishes in the A Finals as well.

On the final day of competition, the Fightin' Engineers opened the night with their first 1-2 finish in an event in the HCAC Championship since 2017. Bath and Stauffer each swam school record times in the 1650 Freestyle with Bath taking the event win in a time of 17:47.56 and Stauffer finishing in second with a time of 17:56.17. Kayla Martinez also brought home a top-6 finish in the event.
