BARTOW, Fla. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team dropped their final match of their 2024 spring trip with a narrow 4-3 defeat to the Warner Royals on Thursday afternoon.
Warner started off the scoring early with a 1-0 lead as they won the #1 and #2 doubles matches. In Division I and Division II tennis, the three doubles matches are only worth one point.
In singles,
Brooke Carpenter picked up the first win of her career with a walkover at #6 singles.
Camille Clark then netted the second point for Rose-Hulman as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #4 singles.
After a pair of losses at #3 and #5 singles, Rose-Hulman had to have the wins at the top two singles spots.
Wynne Aldrich came from down a set to pull out a thrilling three-set victory with a final score of 6-7(2-7), 6-4, 10-3.
At #1 singles,
Taylor Goldman picked up the first set, but the Royals' #1 singles player sent it into a third-set tiebreak to decide the match. In a back and forth tiebreaker, Goldman would fall 10-8, and the Royals would hang on for the 4-3 win.
The Fightin' Engineers fall to 0-7 on the season with four losses to Division I and Division II programs. They will return to action on Saturday, March 9 as they travel to North Manchester, Indiana to take on the Manchester Spartans in the opening match of HCAC competition.
