EUREKA, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team concluded their four-game weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Eureka on Sunday afternoon. The Fightin' Engineers won the first game 5-1 and won the second game 14-3.
In the first game, Rose-Hulman got off to an early start. In the top of the first, a single by
Jadyn Winkler brought in runs by
Phoebe Worstell and
Kayla Schnippel to put the Fightin' Engineers ahead 2-0.
A three run homer by
Kennedy Michnewicz in the top of the third inning would seal the win for Rose-Hulman in game one with a final of 5-1.
Aubrey Smith earned the win in the circle pitching the entire 7.0 innings with six strikeouts.Â
In game two, the Fightin' Engineers offense continued to produce. The team put up three runs to start the game in the top of the first.
In the second inning, Smith hit a double to bring in two more scores to extend the lead to 5-0. A single by Schnippel brought in the run by Smith to give the Fightin' Engineers the commanding lead.
The team continued to swing the bats well with a strong fourth inning scoring seven runs to solidify the victory over the Red Devils after five innings.Â
Rose-Hulman improves to 10-6 on the year with the pair of wins. They will return to action on Thursday, March 28 as they host the Greenville Panthers in a doubleheader at 5 PM and 7 PM in a rescheduled game from earlier this month.
