GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team dropped a back and forth match on Friday night as they fell short with a 5-4 defeat to the Panthers.
The Fightin' Engineers fell behind early after dropping the top two doubles spots, but
Chris Lian and
Owen Reynolds were able to pick up an 8-7 (7-4) win at the #3 spot.
In singles, Rose-Hulman was able to tie the match up at 3 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #1 singles by
Elijah Hadler and a 6-1, 6-2 win at #3 singles by
Ervin Perkowski.
The Fightin' Engineers picked up their fourth point at #6 singles as
Andrew Leonard held on for a 7-6(7-4), 6-4 win. Thus, going into the final two matches, the Fightin' Engineers needed just one point to earn their tenth win of the season.
The team would win the first set in both matches at #4 and #5 singles, but the Panthers would battle back to send both matches to a third set tiebreak. Rose-Hulman would come up short in both matches with scores of 7-6(7-5), 4-6, 7-10 and 7-5, 3-6, 6-10.
With the loss, Rose-Hulman falls to 9-5 on the season. The Fightin' Engineers will return back to their home courts on Wednesday, April 17 at 4:30 PM as they host the University of Southern Indiana.
