TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Anderson University on Saturday with final scores of 6-2 and 8-0.
Phoebe Worstell had a record breaking performance in the first game of the day going a perfect three for three at the plate with three home runs and five RBIs. This is the most home runs recorded by a player in a single game in Rose-Hulman history.
Anderson got off to a strong start taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Rose-Hulman would tie the game on Worstell's first home run of the day bringing in a run by
Aubrey Smith.
The Fightin' Engineers were able to rely on Worstell's career day to tack on the runs and claim the win in the first half of the doubleheader.
Smith earned the win in the circle pitching the entire 7.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Worstell would try her luck in the circle in the second game of the doubleheader. She was able to lead the team to a shutout win pitching all 6.0 innings with four strikeouts only allowing three hits.
Jadyn Winkler got the team on the board first with a two run homer in the bottom of the second.
Jessica Newsom added another home run in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-0.
Rose-Hulman's bats were able to keep the pressure on the Ravens throughout the game leading to a Fightin' Engineers win after six innings.
With the wins, Rose-Hulman improves to 17-9 on the season and 4-2 in the HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers return to HCAC action tomorrow as they travel to take on Manchester University at 1 PM and 3 PM.
