GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team rode their hot bats to their third consecutive victory as they took down DePauw 16-8 after scoring the first 15 runs of the game.
The Fightin' Engineers got the scoring started in the first inning with an RBI double by
Colter Couillard-Rodak and a two-run home run by
Dalton Busboom to give Rose-Hulman a 3-0 lead.
After a scoreless second, Rose-Hulman extended their lead to double digits with an eight run inning, with seven of those runs coming with two outs.
Caleb Frakes,
Mason Rasmussen,
Peter Rogers, Couillard-Rodak,
Connor O'Connell, and Busboom all added RBI hits in the inning.
With an 11-run lead, the Fightin' Engineers kept their bats rolling as they added four runs on RBI hits from Rasmussen,
Kade Kline, and Rogers to extend the lead to 15-0.
DePauw would add two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and five in the seventh, to cut the lead to 15-8.
Dylan Page would add an RBI single in the ninth, and Rose-Hulman would hold on a for a 16-8 victory.
Brady Strawmyer got the start and pitched four innings of shutout baseball while only allowing three hits and striking out two.
Kline and Rogers led the team with three hits as six Rose-Hulman players finished with multiple base knocks. Kline also led the team with three runs scored, and Busboom and Rogers each added three RBIs in the win.
With their third consecutive win and sixth in the last seven games, the Fightin' Engineers improve to 17-11 on the season. They will return to their home field on Wednesday, April 17 as they host the Webster Gorloks at 6 PM.
