KOKOMO, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team fell to Transylvania 5-2 in the winners bracket of the HCAC Toiurnament on Friday morning. With the loss, the Fightin' Engineers move to the loser's racket to play Mount St. Joseph at 4:30 PM in a win or go home game.
The Pioneers got on the board first with two runs in the first inning and another in the second to take a 3-0 lead through two innings.
The Fightin' Engineers battled back with one in the fourth and one in the fifth on an RBI groundout by
Kade Kline and an RBI walk by
Josh Erpenbeck, but Rose-Hulman could not capitalize with runners in scoring position as they left 11 runners on base through five innings and hit 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
Transylvania took advantage of Rose-Hulman mistakes in the sixth inning with a pair of unearned runs to push the lead to 5-2 through six. The Pioneers would tack on two more in the eighth and hold on for the 7-2 win.
Connor O'Connell and
Mark Serdinak led the team at the plate, reaching base three times in the game.
Ian Kline was handed the loss after pitching six innings and allpowing just three earned runs with four strikeouts.
Schuyler Wilcox pitched two innings in relief.
With the loss, Rose-Hulman falls to 24-18 on the season. They will play later today at 4:30 PM against the Mount St. Joseph Lions in a win or go home game.
